Five hospitality professionals took centre stage at the Fairmont Royal York on April 23, as the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) Ontario chapter hosted its first-ever Hospitality Tribute Gala.

The event gathered general managers, executives, and emerging talent from across Ontario for an evening that celebrated the province’s hospitality industry.

“The energy and enthusiasm at our first-ever Hospitality Tribute Gala exceeded all expectations,” said Leon Mulder, president of HSMAI Ontario and senior partner manager at Rocket Travel by Agoda.

“It was an honour to recognize the incredible talent and dedication that drives our industry forward.”

Among the night’s highlights were five distinguished awards honouring individual excellence:

  • Tony Pollard received the Industry Icon Achievement Award for his legacy of advocacy, education, and environmental stewardship. As former president of the Hotel Association of Canada and founder of Green Key Global, Pollard helped shape sustainable hospitality practices across the country.

  • Rob Housez, general manager of the Chelsea Hotel Toronto, was named General Manager of the Year.

  • Chris Siedel of Encore Canada earned Industry Partner of the Year.

  • Jennifer Luke of Germain Hotels was honoured as this year’s Rising Star.

  • Mark Koop, from Best Western Plus Toronto Airport, took home Commercial Impact Member of the Year.

The black-tie event featured a dinner service, guest speeches, and a fundraising auction, with proceeds supporting future HSMAI programming.

“We hope everyone had a fantastic evening—connecting with peers, enjoying the incredible food, and bidding on some amazing auction items,” said Mulder.

“This is just the beginning. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back next year for another unforgettable night of celebration.”

Sponsors included Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, Encore Canada, and Rocky Mountain Soap Company, among others.
